In its day this space must have been spectacular. Built in 1932 by a wealthy family, this boutique building on what is the grand boulevard of the city must have been an ostentatious display of both wealth and innovation. Art-Deco in design, the building resembles the grand ocean-liners of the day, and I`m happy to say that the owners of the building have had both the great sense and discretion not to tear out the heritage design elements and replace them with tacky but new bits and pieces as has happened unfortunately in so many other art-deco buildings throughout the city. The only negative is that while this owner has wanted to re-stucco the exterior of the building, the older and frankly poorer neighbors have not. The apartment is on the second floor and while there was originally space for an elevator to be installed, the owners didn`t do it. It`s not a huge climb, but you may want to have the weekly groceries delivered by one of the cheap delivery services. The apartment sits on the entire floor by itself and boasts 221 sqm of indoor luxury, plus a really cozy terrace off the living room and a balcony off the main bedroom. The apartment was built as a three-bedroom unit with two living rooms (90 sqm!), but you could also use it as a four-bedroom unit with one large living room (62 sqm). There are too many special bits to explain here, but I love the original sliding doors, hardware, the piano nook, the indirect recessed ceiling lighting, the window seat and the architectural genius of how the rooms communicate with each other. For lovers of art-deco and design she is a beautiful lady. The kitchen and bathrooms are all modern. Not crazy about the tiles that were chosen, but I can live with it given the other benefits. Parking, if you need it, is on the street. This is very much a city-apartment. On the grand boulevard, the apartment is a gentle walk to the exciting elements of the city and the buzz of Bucharest is palpable. Walking distance to both the Victoriei and Piata Romana subway stations.
