When originally built in 1938, the block was probably one of the most exclusive addresses in the city. The downtown location, just a couple of blocks from the high street (Boulevard Megheru) and the lovely Icoanei Park, as well as the quality, design and materials used in the common areas (various types of marble) and the apartments themselves tell us that the building was home to stars and celebrities of the era. Since then time has dulled the shine, but you can still see the good taste and quality through the patina and the apartment itself is as cool as the jazz of the period. Three bedrooms, or two bedrooms and an office (as the landlord has it now), a large livingroom, terrace, reception (with the most dazzling mosaic tile floring), two bathrooms and a kitchen large enough to eat in family-style. The apartment is furnished by the landlady and her Italian partner and reflects their love of character and quality. The original building was a shrine to Modernist / Art Deco design, but she went through a very thorough structural consolidation in 2007 which made the building better qualified to handle the big earthquakes while it also changed some of the design (a necessary evil I suppose). Our favorite neighborhood, the Icoanei Park neighborhood, is great because you have the parks, trees, restaurants and terraces that make city life an adventure. Just across the boulevard you have all the museums, theatres, high end shopping and buzz of a city centre. Great location.
